After the successful mini series The Bible aired last year, producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey are bringing the Jesus Christ narrative to the silver screen in the feature film Son of God to be released February 28th. The Bible aired over several weeks on the History channel, covering biblical stories from Genesis to Revelation. The Son of God film will draw from the Gospel-related footage shot for The Bible – the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Roma Downey told The Blaze that, while the film will undoubtedly entertain audiences, she also hopes audiences are impacted spiritually. “We hope audiences leave theaters feeling they know Jesus more and also that they are reminded of how deeply he loved us,” said Downey.
According to ASSIST News, Downey and Burnett have been planning to release Son of God since filming for The Bible was taking place. Burnett told ASSIST: “While shooting the Jesus portion, we realized that this really needed to be a big feature film…So we started overshooting and planning for this film which comes out February 28th and is a two hour movie on the life of Jesus which is made in a very fantastic way; very gripping very dramatic.”
In the film, Downey portrays Mary the mother of Jesus, and Jesus is played by Portuguese actor Diogo Morgando
