A terrorist killed 80 people and injured several when he drove a truck at high speed into a crowd watching Bastille day fireworks in Nice, France late on Thursday at around 11.00p.m local time.
The man also opened fire on the crowd and police as he drove through the crowd. Witnesses say he drove in a zig zag manner so that he could hit as many people as possible. It is also reported that he drove into the crowd for 2 km at a speed of about 50km/h
Reports says he was gunned down by the police
The police is trying to determine if he had accomplices.
The French president, François Hollande, described the attack as a “monstrosity” and said soldiers would be deployed to support gendarmes and police, particularly at the country’s borders. He said the attack was “terrorist in nature” and vowed France would always be stronger than the fanatics that want to attack her.
The country’s state of emergency, which was due to expire on 26 July, is to be extended for three months.
No terrorist organisation has claimed responsibility yet.
