Foursquare Gospel Church suspends lecturer/pastor in the aftermath of sex-for-grades scandal

Dr Boniface Igbeneghu
The Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria has suspended Dr. Boniface Igbeneghu, a lecturer at the University of Lagos and a pastor of the Foursquare Church in Lagos.

This is as a result of the recent release of a video by BBC African Eye allegedly showing academics propositioning undercover female reporters. This was part of a major operation  detailing sexual harassment on university campuses in Nigeria and Ghana.

The operation was carried out by a BBC African Eye reporter, Kiki Mordi, who posed as a 17 year old admission seeker to the University of Lagos.

She wore a hidden camera and recorded the whole encounter with the lecturer/pastor. The video showed Dr. Igbeneghu making sexual overtures to the reporter.

Upon the airing of the video on social media, the Foursquare Gospel Church issued a statement asking Dr Igbeneghu to step down from all ministerial assignments.

According to a statement by the National Secretary of the church, Rev. Ugbaja; "The general public is hereby informed that as a holiness and Bible-believing church, we do not condone such heinous and unscriptural act among our ministers. We totally dissociate ourselves from the purported conduct of Dr. Igbeneghu and promise to take appropriate measures as soon as the ongoing investigation is concluded."
