Senior Pastor of Citadel Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare is a year older today. Born on November 11, 1954, Pastor Bakare is an author, teacher, lawyer, activist, and cleric from Ogun state. He has been dubbed as one of the most influential political pastors in Nigeria. In the 2011 presidential elections, he served as the running mate of Muhammadu Buhari.
He was born a Muslim but he converted in 1974 to Christianity. He is the General Overseer of Citadel Assembly (formerly The Latter Rain Assembly), a church he founded on April 1, 1989. He has been an avid critic of many political choices of sitting governments.
A leader par excellence
Pastor Babatunde Gbolahan Bakare is notable for his frequent statements on the state of the nation. It will be recalled that Pastor Bakare was a formidable voice during the 2012 subsidy protests. More so, he has condemned many policies of the government.
The renowned cleric does not believe in staying silent on issues that affect the people. He has always spoken up against the oppression of the masses. He is one of the most influential political pastors in Nigeria. He has a dream of becoming the president of the country some day. However, he has stated that his desire is not a do-or-die affair.

During the physical protests against police brutality, Pastor Bakare supported the youths. For two weeks, Nigerian youths marched out against inhuman treatment against police brutality.
According to the renowned cleric, the #EndSARS protests were more than just against police brutality. It was a protest against bad governance in Nigeria. The government has decided to ignore the needs of the people. Hence, the youths decided to march out against the repressive government.
