Millions of children worldwide suffer from poverty. The number has been alarming in recent times especially in the COVID-19 pandemic. However, a Christian group that is dedicated to ending extreme poverty and hunger has lightened up the spirit of these children with its outreach this Christmas.
Christian Broadcasting Network's Orphan's Promise is a children's outreach that partners with established ministries to help orphans and vulnerable children around the world.
Many children are out of school due to lack of funds, some lack food, shelter, water, and healthcare due to poverty, domestic violence, and exploitation. Organizations focused on lifting the spirit of these children are also ensuring that they are teaching them the word of God and His unending love for mankind.
CBN's Orphan's Promise has been consistent in its cause so far. In Ukraine, about 1,000 children were given hats, jackets, gloves, and shoes this year. Also, the Christian group has fed 5,000 starving children since April 2020 in Ukraine and post-Soviet nations.
In addition, Orphan's Promise has planned to nurture and entertain children in this years special holiday. Countries that have been earmarked for this event include Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Armenia. There are expected to be moments for worship, sharing a meal together, and gift-giving.
CBN's humanitarian organization, Operation Blessing, also has events planned this festive period in Norfolk, Virginia. Operation Blessing is focused on providing clean water, hunger relief, and medical care to children around the world.
Operation Blessing and CBNs local outreach have been spreading love to families by sharing food and Christmas dinner groceries since December. Also, the organization shall be distributing family gifts which include a Superbook Christmas box, along with toys and gifts to children of all ages.
The head of CBN's local outreach, Mary Allsbrook, is excited by the outpouring of support this year. She said: "We are delighted that Operation Blessing joined CBN's local outreach team and its LAUNCH ministry network this year to help bring Christmas cheer to underserved families. What a blessing to celebrate our Savior's birth and share the love of Jesus in very tangible ways this Christmas!"
The ministry has been consistent with its efforts to safely distribute grocery bags with various food items despite the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The bags are distributed once a week to families in Norfolk.
Gospel for Asia (GFA), another mission agency, is aimed at meeting the dire needs of children while inspiring hope in our Heavenly Father. GFA established "Bridge of Hope", an initiative that offers children a promising future. The ‘Bridge of Hope’ has a child sponsorship program that is aimed at giving children regular medical checkups in order to improve their physical health and development. Likewise, it aims at feeding over 70,000 needy children a daily.
GFA World founder Dr. K.P. Yohannan also had this to say. "It's critical that this generation does not give up, that it's empowered to break free from the stranglehold of poverty. Otherwise, countless millions of children will be doomed to a life of misery in the world's gutters and slums. They deserve so much better than that."
