Brazil is set to erect a new statue of Jesus Christ. The statue which is under construction is aimed at surpassing the height of the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue that overlooks Rio de Janeiro.
In 2016, the construction of Christ the Protector started in the city of Encantado. Last week, the head and outstretched arms were included. However, France.24.com reported that the monument would be completed later in the year.
When it is finished, this project will be the world's third tallest Jesus statue. In Sulawesi, Indonesia, the Jesus Buntu Burake statue is more than 172 feet tall. Meanwhile, Christ the King in Swiebodzin, Poland stands at 172 feet tall.
Brazil’s local politician Adroaldo Conzatti, conceived the idea before he died of COVID-19 in March. In his remark, his son, Gilson Conzatti said that it is a day for celebration and for devotion.
From hand to hand, the statue measures more than 118 feet and it will contain an internal elevator. The observation deck which is close to the zenith of the statue stands at 141 feet tall. Tourists are expected to visit this area.
While comparing Christ the Redeemer with this statue, the former measures more than 124 feet high and spans more than 91 feet hand to hand. This October, the iconic figure will mark its 90th anniversary.
The fund for this project is slated at $350,000 and it is being financed through donations.
