A documentary that is centered on the uplifting and untold story of the roots of the Christian genre up to its present day is set to be premiered on October 1. “The Jesus Music” will feature music stars like Michael W. Smith, Kirk Franklin, Toby Mac, Amy Grant, and Lauren Daigle as they take viewers on a journey through contemporary Christian music.
According to The Christian Post, the synopsis of the documentary is, "The universal power of music from these artists shine through from their messages of passion, sacrifice, and redemption that inspire millions of devoted listeners.’’ Besides, the film tells how the contemporary Christian music genre was started in the 1960s in the middle of civil unrest.
It was directed by the Erwin Brothers, the creators behind the hit film “I Can Only Imagine.” Viewers will also get a glimpse into some of the battles that occurred behind the scenes that facilitated in pushing the genre.
In a trailer for the documentary, Daigle said, "The richness of hope that can land on someone's spirit via rhyme and melody and sound, I don't understand it.’’ Likewise, Grant said, “A lot of hymns are ‘close your eyes singing to God'. I wanted to sing with my eyes wide open, singing to each other.”
Kirk Franklin added in the trailer, “You want to find a loving way to have these conversations. It was so much drama in the church.”
Apart from artists listed, John L. Cooper, DC Talk, Toby Mac, CeCe Winans, for King and Country, Steven Curtis Chapman were also featured in the documentary. In conclusion, Chris Tomlin also talked about the relationship between music and God.
