The appointment of Mrs. Evelyn Joshua, the wife of late Prophet T.B. Joshua as a trustee of the Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) has been approved by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.
According to Channels Television, Justice Tijjani Ringim gave the approval on Thursday while ruling on a petition by some concerned church members, Moji Oguntoyinbo and Kola Kareem, who filed for themselves on behalf of all the members of SCOAN.
In their petition, they pleaded with the court to make Mrs. Joshua a member of the trustees. This is in regards to the constitution of the church which demands a minimum of three trustees.
Besides, they stated that two other members of the Board of Trustees do not have the capacity to make decisions which are necessary to move the church to the next level.
According to the petitioners, their petition was necessary due to the death of Prophet T.B. Joshua - the general overseer of the church who was equally a church trustee.
“In the circumstances, it became imperative for an additional trustee to be appointed to fill the vacancy created by the untimely death of the deceased founder,” they said.
Ringim and Oguntoyinb instituted the suit against the Incorporated Trustees of SCOAN, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), and Mrs Evelyn Joshua. Their representatives in court were Emeka Ekweozor and Ossazu Owie who represented the first and second respondents.
O.N. Chukwu also appeared as the counsel for the CAC. All the respondents informed the court through their lawyers that they were not opposed to the petition filed under Section 839 (6) (B) of the Companies and Allied matters Act (CAMA) 2020 (as Amended).
There were no objections from the respondents. Consequently, the court did not waste any time in approving their request. There are expectations that this new order will ensure clarity on the succession and leadership of the church.
