Grammy Award-winning artiste, Kirk Franklin, has announced the release of his Christmas film titled ‘Kirk Franklin’s a Gospel Christmas’. The movie, which is set to be released in the cinema on December 4, had Chaz Lamar Shepherd, Demetria McKinney, and Jen Harper starring in it.
While speaking on the film, Franklin, who is one of the executive producers of the film told The Christian Post, “The film will show how much gospel music can live and survive outside of just Sunday morning, [and] that it can be on TV, on Broadway and in movies. It will be a great moment for the genre, the community and Lifetime.
“The agenda should be that, whether it’s male or female, that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is being preached and that it’s being shared with the world. I don’t want to get into doctrine. I just want to be able to tell stories that align with the totality of the Gospel and the truth. And I think there hasn’t been enough honest conversations about identity and value and the esteem that we don’t have to be cookie-cutter.’’
The 51-year-old singer added that he is hopeful that his Christian film will influence other film makers to create similar contents. More so, he said that there are many talents around and it will be good if they use their talent to the benefit of all.
"Gospel music has always influenced American music, from your biggest pop stars, their musicians and their band of singers — [who] are all from the black churc. And so, we see that influence is all over pop culture for years from Elvis Presley to Kanye West. … This is an opportunity to just showcase the viability of the genre [of gospel music]," Franklin said.
