Grammy-award-winning singer, Mariah Carey, has refused the tag of “Queen of Christmas.” Her reason was that the tag belongs to Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ.
Carey, who has been in the industry for over three decades, recently bagged the Recording Industry Association of America Diamond Award for her hit single, “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” This song has been consistently played during the Christmas period since its release in 1994. Due to the success of the song, the singer was tagged the ‘’Queen of Christmas.’’
However, in an interview with The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2, Carey revealed that she does not see herself as the ‘’Queen of Christmas,’’ and she equally did not give herself that name.
Carey said, “Can I just say that I did not create the title or the moniker ‘Queen of Christmas,’’ I did not do that. That was other people, and I just want to humbly say that I don’t consider myself that.
“I’m someone that loves Christmas, that happened to be blessed to write ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ and a lot of other Christmas songs. Let’s face it, everybody’s faith is what it is. But to me, Mary is the queen of Christmas.’’
In her memoir, ‘’The Meaning of Mariah Carey,’’ which the singer released last year, talks about how her faith rescued her when she had a breakdown in 2002. Carey released another Christmas song, “Fall in Love at Christmas,” in November 2021, which she featured gospel artist, Kirk Franklin.
