Faith-based series, Christmas with the Chosen: The Messengers, has gulped $8 million in ticket sales since its release. This makes it the best selling movie so far for its distributor, Fathom Events.
Currently, 640, 000 tickets have been sold by Fathom Events, a lead distributor of new and classic films to movie theatres. Previously, the film had broken a record for excess demand of tickets during the first 12 hours of its release.
Actors who featured in the series include Giavani Cairo (Thaddeus), Luke Dimyan (Judas), and Lara Silva (Eden). Initially, the movie was planned for two nights only but due to the high demand for tickets, viewing was extended till December 10. It has been released to 1,700 movie theatres globally.
In a news release, Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Events said, “We knew we had something special with this title. We are grateful for the passionate fans of The Chosen and our exhibitor partners who accommodated demand by adding show times and locations. We are all partners on this journey to claim the #1 spot as Fathom’s best-selling event, ever!”
The film centers on the life of Jesus and it involves music from artists including for King and Country. Jordan Feliz, Phil Wickham, Maverick City Music, Brandon Lake, We the Kingdom, Cain, and Matt Maher.
While commenting on the broken record by the movie, its creator, writer, and director, Dallas Jenkins said, “We don’t do this for the numbers, but these records indicate people will indeed go to the theater for a project they’re passionate about. The enthusiastic comments from new and old fans give us the confidence to do this again.”
