Ukraine: Christian Groups Send Relief Materials to Victims

Amidst the looming war in Ukraine, the citizens are getting help from international Christian organisations. Samaritans’ Purse and World Help, are assisting the church in Ukraine to support victims of Russia’s attack in the country.

On Thursday, the Russian troops invaded towards the country’s capital, causing tension on the citizens. According to reports, Romania and Poland are expecting refugees from Ukraine. This prompted the Samaritan’s Purse to send some disaster response specialists to both countries.

Reports have it that by Friday night, over 100,000 Ukrainians had taken refuge outside the country. More people are expected to leave as the fear of a war looms.

Renowned preacher and leader of Samaritan’s Purse, Franklin Graham said, “We have deployed members of our Disaster Assistance Response Team to surrounding countries and are standing ready to help meet emergency needs resulting from the crisis.

“Please join me in praying for the people of Ukraine and for this conflict to end quickly.”

The group, led by Graham, is also speaking to partner churches and organizations in Ukraine to prepare and implement a strategic disaster response.

The group partners with over 3,000 churches across Ukraine and has planned an Emergency Field Hospital for overseas shipment in case the need arises. They also plan to share about 600,000 Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes as gifts for children.

Also, World Help is assisting with emergency relief material through local churches and Christian organisations to over 1,000 Ukrainian refugees.

Kraig Cole, director of international partnerships for World Help said, "Our hearts are breaking for the people of Ukraine. We are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, and we want to get people the help they need as soon as possible.

“We have been preparing for a Russian invasion, but I don’t think anyone predicted an attack like this. We have no idea how the situation in Ukraine will escalate. We’re just getting started.”

Cole added that no one is powerless to help as he called on others to render assistance. He continued, "No one is powerless to help. Even a small gift can go a long way toward helping a person survive as they flee what is quickly becoming a full-scale warzone. This is our chance to follow the example of the Good Samaritan and to go out of our way to help someone who is hurting.”
