Actor Mickey Rourke has said that God is real after he was led on a positive path through prayers and counseling from a Christian leader. In an interview with Fox News, the actor, who would be staring in "Man of God" added that he would have been led astray if not for his religious grandmother, who is now late.
While growing up, Rourke encountered many challenges but he succumbed to a Supreme power.
He said, “You either live in that shame and be a broken man or you get hard. I was very comfortable on the streets growing up. But there is a God. My priest told me, ‘God hears everything you say. He just doesn’t give it to you when you want it. You’ve got to keep persevering and keep communicating with him. You’ve got to talk to God before the house burns down.'”
The actor also recalled the trials he passed through at age 18, when his 17 year old brother, Joey was diagnosed with cancer and was told he had six months to live.
However, Joey didn't die within the period he was given to live until decades later. Rourke revealed that after Joey's death in 2004, he didn't pray for two years until he met a priest named Rev. Peter Colapietro.
The priest encouraged him to pray and understand that everyone goes through one trial or the other. More so, guidance and therapy helped him to regain himself.
He also spoke about the movie, "Man of God." The movie is about the Greek Orthodox saint, St. Nektarios of Aegina, who faced persecution even after doing good deeds.
Rourke said, “I don’t want to make movies where it’s just one guy and a machine gun killing 200 other people just because it sells. That’s for somebody else. It’s not for me. But one thing I’ve learned is that everything’s in God’s hands.”
