Actor and comedian, Kel Mitchell, has recounted how he overcame thoughts of suicide to embrace Jesus Christ. In an interview with Faithwire, the star of Nickelodeon’s “All That” and “Kenan & Kel,” noted that he recorded great success in Hollywood. However, he was drowning in his personal struggles.
His thoughts became troubled as suicide became an option for him. The author of “Blessed Mode: 90 Days to Level Up Your Faith” said he was brought up in a Christian home but he drifted from all that he was taught while growing up, after he found fame.
Mitchell said, “I grew up in the church. My grandfather was a pastor, but there is a difference between basically knowing God and having a relationship with God.”
He later battled depression after he featured in some big movies. He also became frustrated before he got to a point that changed his mindset.
He said, “I was just kind of like, ‘I want to (hit) the off button. When I decided not to take my life at that point, and I decided to live, that’s when things changed around for me.”
It was a trying time for him but he was determined to overcome his struggles and allow God take charge of his life. He said that he had to change things in his life that were not of God. He prayed for guidance and God showed up for him, removing everything that led him astray.
“I went through a lot of ups and downs within my life and within my career. And in those downtimes, God was always there — He was there in the ups and in the downs,” he said.
Mitchell had to share his journey with young people who found it inspiring. It also encouraged others who are going through the same struggle as he did.
