General overseer of Omega Power Ministry (OPM), Pastor Chibuzor Chinyere, has presented a car and house to the family of Deborah Yakubu, a 200 level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoro, who was murdered for alleged blasphemy on May 12, 2022 in front of her school by some of her school mates. She was accused of insulting the Prophet Muhammed.
The family members of Deborah were flown into Rivers State from Niger State. On Tuesday, May 24, Pastor Chibuzor met with them in Port Harcourt, Rivers State where he presented the car and house gift to them.
According to OPM, the gifts were financed from tithes and offerings of church members. The car is said to be for Uber business for Deborah's father.
Deborah’s death sparked outrage on social media as many persons condemned the dastardly act. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) called for justice for the death of one of their own. As it resulted to more outrage, the association also pleaded for calm.
On Sunday, May 22, there were peaceful protests in some churches across the country where Christians decried the death of Deborah and sought justice for her death.
The action of Pastor Chibuzor has attracted commendations from several individuals on social media. Clara Joseph wrote, “Pastor Chibuzor, for seeing Christ in this family and coming to their aid, may the oil of your anointing never run dry. Amen.”
Felix Effiong commented, “God bless this man of God for the show of love towards humanity. I am really touched.”
Lawal Abdullateef said, “This is wonderful. He promised and fulfilled it in a miraculous way. Blocks of flats, not one. May God reward him abundantly and uplift his ministry.”
