The Christian Association of Nigeria is set to announce its new President on Thursday, July 28, 2022. This will be done during its 2022 General Assembly and leadership transition programme. The event will also mark the end of the tenure of the current CAN president, Rev. Sam Ayokunle.
The timetable of the General Assembly did not state the details about the new person that would be assuming the position of the CAN president.
The transition timetable read, “The Christian Association of Nigeria has scheduled to hold the 2022 General Assembly from July 27 – 29, 2022 at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.
“This event will mark the end of the tenure of His Eminence, Rev. Dr. Samson Olasupo Ayokunle and some members of the National Executives under his team and will usher in another administration.
“There will be a symposium on the leadership crises in Nigeria on July 27, 2022, at the Jubilee Resorts, National Christian Centre, Abuja.
“Opening of the General Assembly that will ratify the election of the new President of the Association will take place on Thursday, July 28 2022.
“Shortly afterward, the send-off Service in honour of the outgoing CAN President will hold at the Church auditorium, National Christian Centre, Abuja.
“The official Handing Over ceremony will take place on Friday, July 29, 2022 at the Jubilee Hall, National Christian Centre, Abuja.
“His Eminence, Rev. Samson Ayokunle, deeply appreciates the support given to his administration by all stakeholders and prays for divine guidance and expansion.”
Ayokunle became the president of CAN in June 15, 2016 after Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor completed his tenure in the highest office in CAN.
Ayokunle was re-elected on June 19 2019 for a second term of three years after defeating his opponent, Dr Caleb Ahima, President of the Fellowship of Churches of Christ in Nigeria.
He is also the President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention.
