In his remark, the Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, through his chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, said, “Bishop Kukah embodies humility, courage, integrity and diligence. His passion for the masses, especially the vulnerable and less privileged is second to none. Such a man can best be described as a special gift of God to his generation.
“On this occasion of his 70th birthday, I wish him long life and good health so that he can continue his selfless service to humanity. On behalf of my wife, the government and the good people of Ekiti State, I congratulate Bishop Kukah and wish him many more years of celebrations.”
Also, a former governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi wrote on his social media pages, “My Lord and elder brother, Bishop Matthew Kukah, hearty and warm fraternal greetings as you mark your 70th birthday and join the legion of the righteous.
“I share in your joys as we celebrate your life and many impactful years in the service of God, the Church and the country.
“You have remained a consistent voice against corruption, oppression, injustice and evil, which pervade every part of our nation through your preaching, writings and lifestyle. You have influences and pointed many to the right ways of life.
“Yours is a life of service to God and humanity. Your voice is wisdom and courage has been an inspiration and salve to many Nigerians. You speak truth to power. You are a sincere patriot committed to nation-building and a united Nigeria.
“As an apostle of faith and qualitative education, you have continued to invest in education for the good of the people and the development of the nation. You have in many ways, written your name in the hearts of men by your evangelization and lifestyle of charity and humility.
“I pray that God will grant you more wisdom to lead, health to work and blessings and grace to impact more lives positively and run the race till the end.”
On his part, former governor of Lagos State and All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu said, “My Lord Bishop, your life has been one of devotion and duty to God and humanity. As such, your life speaks of humility and compassion.
“The influence and respect that is yours goes beyond the Catholic Church and even your position as the Bishop of Sokoto Diocese. You are a voice of conscience in and for all Nigeria
“For over four decades, your homilies as a cleric as well as your contributions as a public intellectual have enriched the national discourse and highlighted the role of morality in the public space.”
