Bishop TD Jakes Passes Torch to Sarah Jakes Roberts

On Sunday in Atlanta at Woman Thou Art Loosed: Homecoming, Bishop TD Jakes passed the torch to Sarah Jakes Roberts in a moving commissioning that saw him shed tears as he blessed her and all the women present. On her part, his daughter wept, fell under the power of God and also rushed to her husband, Toure’s side when he also fell after an embrace from the presiding bishop of the Potter’s House.

After quoting John 3:27-30 TD Jakes called her to the stage. “This transitional moment Woman Thou Art Loosed comes to an end today but that doesn’t mean that there’s not something next. Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts when you stand and walk to the stage you’re walking into your destiny. Your future, your calling your purpose, your giftings. Stand up girl, this is your moment, walk to the stage.” Pointing out that reading that passage was deliberate he also said, “Jesus said there was none like John, the truth of the matter is that God gave John the platform so that he would be smart enough to know when to pass it on.”

WTAL has been a thirty-year journey that began in 1992. In that period this movement has produced a best-selling book, acclaimed stage play, a GRAMMY nominated album and in 2004 was developed into a movie collaboration with Reuben Cannon Productions. It became a box office hit and won the 2005 NAACP Image Award. “After thirty years of ministering Woman Thou Art Loosed and forty-six years of preaching the gospel the time has come. That I must decrease, that you might increase. I am so proud of you. I’m not just proud of what you do but of who you are. You are bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh, but none of that is the reason why you’re standing on this stage. This is not an inheritance, this is a calling. You’re not standing on this stage for family legacy, if you didn’t have the oil you would not be standing here. I respect God too much just because you’re kin to me. I love you too much to put you in a situation which you were not endowed with the creativity, and the strength and the power and the tenacity to do the thing that is set before you.”

Sarah Jakes Roberts first words on this transition revealed what to expect on this next stage. “Well, I guess it’s the beginning of a breakthrough then. I guess it’s just the beginning of the next dimension then, I guess all things do really work together for the good of those who love the Lord and called according to his purpose. So, woman Evolve and don’t leave me out here by myself. And I’m going up and everybody with me going up too!”
