A new documentary which focuses on the faith and redemption of country music legend, Johnny Cash, is set to premiere in December from 5 to 7. The trailer for the film has been released.
The film is an adaptation of Pastor Greg Laurie’s book titled, Johnny Cash: The Redemption of an American Icon. Greg, who pastors a California megachurch, is also one of the executive producers of the documentary.
Cash’s life revolves around multiple encounters with the law and his musical career that sold about 90 million records globally. This was the centre of the documentary. It also focuses on Cash's journey to redemption and how he went back to his Christian faith.
It will be recalled that CBN News reported in July, 2022 that Cash’s son, John Carter, is compiling a new book titled, ‘Walking the Line: 90 Devotions of Truth and Hope Based on the Faith of Johnny Cash’, aimed at keeping the memory of his father alive.
The book is a compilation of Johnny Cash’s proclamations and spiritual quotes that have not been revealed to the public.
While speaking on the book compilation, Carter told CBN’s Faithwire, "My father's faith was defining who he was. My dad fell short in many ways through his life, but he always went back to that faith. He always carried that with him no matter what, wherever he went. Everything that he did in his life, that was a foundation."
He also highlighted some of his dad’s quotes: "Sometimes I am two people. Johnny is the nice one. Cash causes all the trouble. They fight."
On his part, Pastor Laurie spoke about Cash during his book release in 2019. He said, "His was an up and down life but one where he ultimately deepened in his faith and commitment to Christ.
"Because Johnny had faith, when he hit rock bottom he would turn to the Lord again. He was messed up, but he knew his only hope was Christ. And so it's interesting because, both musically and spiritually, Johnny started and finished well."
Tickets to the theatre premiere can be purchased at the Fathom Events website.
