The Senior Pastor of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman, was attacked by gunmen on Friday along the Benin Auchi Road, Edo State, and allegedly killed seven persons including three policemen.
According to The Punch, the preacher was returning home from a foreign trip when he was attacked. In the process, three policemen attached to him and four other persons were killed in the attack.
Suleiman’s lawyer, Samuel Amune, confirmed the incident to a reporter with The Punch, adding that the preacher was attacked by assassins.
He said, “He was returning from a journey and he had almost gotten on the shores of Auchi when some assassins attacked him. Three of his police orderlies, among others, died. He travelled before and just finished a programme in Tanzania the day before yesterday.
“He was returning to Auchi when the gunmen attacked him along Sabingida down to the Warake area, and Auchi shares a direct boundary with Warake. So, he had passed Warake and was entering the boundaries of Auchi when the attack happened.”
On his part, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Chuidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident. He admitted that six persons, including Suleman’s drivers and police orderlies with him were killed. However, the domestic staff with him was yet to be identified. In addition, he said that during the attack, one of the assailants was gunned down.
Some people have commented on the trending news. A Facebook user, Friday Emmanuel said, “What a tragedy. No one is safe, even men of God. Let us hand over this country to our colonial masters to fix it again.”
Umar Rumah said, “It is high time to stop comments on issues on the current massive killings of people in Nigeria. Our last hope is to pray to God to come into our rescue. Let us put our hope in God only and no more to anyone.”
Tipzy Leo wrote, “Now, the big question here is, ‘how did the gunmen know that he will be returning that very day. How do they know the time and route? Nigeria is really bleeding, and yet people are still supporting bad government.”
The Conscience commented, “Insecurity is getting to its peak in this country. I think it is high time each community signs up its security outfit to protect themselves. This is no more a matter of God protecting us. Everyone should be on a watch as security is for all. May Nigeria no happen to any of us.”
