The project for the first northern Nigeria Anglican university has been launched by a former Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.). The site for the proposed Walter Miller University is Dikko, Niger State. This was announced at a dinner on Wednesday at The Wheat Baker Hotel Lagos.
While speaking at the project launch, Danjuma thanked those who attended. Meanwhile, in a statement by Danjuma on Thursday, signed by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, to the Sokoto State Governor, Muhammad Bello, said that the project has been on for the past two years.
He said, “Two years ago, a group of committed academics and bishops under the leadership of Prof. Adamu Baikie, first don of education in northern Nigeria met and mooted the idea of setting up the university.
"Good progress has been made in establishing the university, we are soliciting for your support and cooperation.”
Notable personalities who attended the launch were state governors – Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Abubakar Bello of Niger State, Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, and Darius Ishaku of Taraba State.
Others dignitaries were former Senate President, David Mark; former Minister of Information, Prof Jerry Gana; former governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha; Senator Tunde Ogbeha; businessman and philanthropist, Gilbert Chagoury; and Admiral Bode George (rtd).
