David Green, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hobby Lobby, a popular craft chains in America, has revealed his biblical secret to success in his new book, “Leadership Not By the Book: 12 Unconventional Principles to Drive Incredible Results.”
In an interview with CBN’s Faithwire, he said that he dedicated his business to God because it is God’s business. He said, “I think there is not a better way. I think God wants to bless us. So, we want to do the very best we can to see His word and see how to run our business.”
The company is known for its benevolent acts to his employees over the years. Asides giving employees substantial portions of its profits, it also gives them Sundays off to be with their families.
Green said, “Most Christians say that God owns their business, but we really had to learn that for real. We see ourselves as stewards, and that is a much, much better place to be.”
He also spoke about the early years of the company. He said, “We borrowed $600 and we started making these little frames in our basement, and that was in 1970. And we didn’t open our first store here in Oklahoma City until 1972.”
The company is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary. The company has grown from its 600-square-foot store to hundreds of locations.
However, apart from the physical growth of the company, Green is also concerned about the spiritual growth of his family and that is his biggest success.
He said, “The thing that I am most excited about, and I think that’s most important in my life, is my children and my grandchildren, serving the Lord. That is my biggest success.”
