The Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, Paul Adefarasin, has paid tributes to the late renowned gospel singer, Sammie Okposo. In a post on Instagram on Saturday, Adefarasin said, “To a greatly gifted man, words fail me. Sleep on in the Lord till we meet to part no more.
“Your memory is forever blessed. May the Almighty keep all who love you dearly and share in our great loss in the cover of His mighty wings. We will miss you on this side. Rest in peace great warrior. In memorium of Sammie Okposo.”
Also, the Head Pastor of The Elevation Church, Godman Akinlabi wrote, “(It) saddens me to hear of the passing of Sammie Okposo. He blessed our world with his God-given gift and left indelible marks on earth. I sympathize with his family and loved ones at this difficult time. Rest in peace my brother.”
Meanwhile, the Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, sent his condolences to the Okposo family through his Chief Press Secretary, Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba. The statement read in part, “On behalf of the government and people of Delta, I mourn the passing of an illustrious son of our state and a great minister in gospel music.
“The news of his death was shocking and it is indeed a great loss because he was a valued asset to Deltans and Nigerians, especially as his songs continue to inspire many to worship God.” Okowa also prayed for the repose of the singer’s soul.
On his part, music producer, Cobhams Asuquo said, “This hasn’t clicked yet. It doesn’t feel real. This much I know, there will never be another Era, another Institution, another Sammie Okposo. Ah!!!”
Gospel singer, Nikki Laoye, also eulogized the late singer in a lengthy Instagram post. She wrote, “I have not been myself all day. You called me a few days ago. We were thanking God for the miracle of life, the testimonies of Him keeping you alive and well.
“We laughed and gisted for long like we always do. So, that was the last time I would talk to you…I covered you with prayers everyday since you called me because I kept thanking God for your life everyday, only to be woken this morning with this terrible news that my brother, my backbone, my angel is gone.
“Losing you hurts as madly as losing my Dad. I have screamed, I have cried, I have laughed like a mad woman… You took care of me, you opened doors for me, you protected me, you fought for me, and you supported everything I did. Just praying so hard for Aunty Ozy and the entire family right now. Oh God please cover us all with your love and comfort because this one hurts too much.”
