Jonathan Roumie, the lead character in the popular Christian film, ‘The Chosen’, has said that playing the role of Jesus helped his relationship with God, adding that the role helped him to depend totally on God. The 48-year-old actor also recalled how he was in a dark place of his life before he featured in the movie.
In an interview with The Christian Post, Roumie said, “Four years ago, before I started this journey, I was in a much different place in my life. I was broke; I didn't know if I was going to continue to be an actor.”
While Roumie was struggling in May 2018, he made a decision to submit his life totally to God. Three months after he made this decision, he got a call from the director of The Chosen, Dallas Jenkins, asking him if he would like to act in his film, which focused on Jesus Christ and his followers.
Roumie accepted the request and he has not regretted his decision ever since. ‘The Chosen’ was first released in 2019 and its third season was launched in the theatres on November 18, 2022. So far, the series has been translated into 62 languages.
Speaking on how the movie impacted on his life, Roumie said, “It forced me to depend even more than I thought I was depending on God already, for everything in my life. There's not a day that goes by that I don't start with prayer and give gratitude for where God's brought me through this journey.”
He also said that his wish is that viewers can be inspired by the movie and involve God in all that they do. He continued, “I hope that they can feel inspired to go read the Scriptures and be inspired by the Word and maybe find the Church and get more involved in making God a greater part of their lives because your life only gets better."
Roumie is also part of the cast in Jesus Revolution which is set to be released on February 24, 2023.
