Contrary to information in the media that the late renowned gospel singer, Sammie Okposo, slumped on Friday morning before he died, his management has refuted such claim. He was said to have actually died in his sleep.
In an interview with The Punch, Hillary Vincent, Okposo's project manager said, “It is not true that Sammie slumped and died. That report is false. At the right time, the family will set the records straight. But I can tell you authoritatively that he did not slump. Rather, he just did not wake up from his sleep.
“As regards the funeral arrangements, the details will be made known by the family. But right now, they are still in grief and mourning the departed singer."
The news of the death of the "Wellu Wellu" master, as Okposo is fondly called, came as a shock to many persons. His family, colleagues and fans have continued to mourned him.
On Saturday, the Head Pastor of House on the Rock Church wrote on Instagram, “To a greatly gifted man, words fail me. Sleep on in the Lord till we meet to part no more.
“Your memory is forever blessed. May the Almighty keep all who love you dearly and share in our great loss in the cover of His mighty wings. We will miss you on this side. Rest in peace great warrior. In memorium of Sammie Okposo.”
Also, the Senior Pastor of The Elevation Church, Godman Akinlabi wrote, “(It) saddens me to hear of the passing of Sammie Okposo. He blessed our world with his God-given gift and left indelible marks on earth. I sympathize with his family and loved ones at this difficult time. Rest in peace my brother.”
Other gospel singers have also paid tributes to him. Nathaniel Bassey wrote on Instagram on Friday, “The news of our brother’s passing, Minister Sammie Okposo, hit me really hard this morning. (I am) still dazed. I pray for God’s comfort and strength for the immediate family, friends and colleagues.” On her part, Tope Alabi said, “Rest in the bosom of the Lord, Sammie Okposo.”
