My structure is God, Obi says

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has said that God is his structure. It will be recalled that in May 2022, the politician decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to LP which made his opponents say that his new political party does not have the structure in the country to win elections.

However, several months down the line, LP has become one of the leading political parties in the country as Obi’s supporters, who are popularly called ‘Obidients’, have continued to grow in numbers.

Obi, who is a former governor of Anambra State, is also a businessman and the chancellor of Dominican University, Ibadan, Oyo State. During the school’s convocation ceremony recently, Obi insisted that while other contenders for the 2023 presidential race may be depending on other means, he is depending on God.

He said, “My number one structure is God, the number two is human beings, and you people are my structure because you believe in me and in what I am saying.

“The structure we have today is that of criminality and underdevelopment. These structures have ruined the country. So, the pertinent question is do you want to continue with the existing structure or do you want a new structure?”

It is pertinent to note that the 61-year-old politician is a devoted Catholic who has also been visible in several churches recently. He has visited Dominion City, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Salvation Ministries, The Lord’s Chosen Church, Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel, The Redeemed Evangelical Mission, among others.

Obi also spoke about why he is the most suitable person for the position, adding that he would unite and secure Nigeria if he wins the election.

He said, “I have proven that I can do the job and made promises that I will be committed to and deliver on. This is all about looking into what I had promised and delivered in the past.

“The job requires a lot of physical and mental energy; it is left for you to assess those who are most suitable for the job. However, what is most important for me is to secure and unite Nigeria and move it from consumption to production because that is the only way we can pull people out of poverty and create job opportunities.”

On accusations that some of his statistics are wrong, he said, “Go and verify or let them give an alternative. If you say my statistics are wrong, then you give your own. You can’t say that I am wrong when you have not given your own. Ninety percent of every statistic that I have given is right, quote me anywhere.”
