The founder of Hillsong Church, Brian Houston, has announced that he and his wife, Bobbie, will be launching a new ministry. He made this announcement on X (formerly Twitter) saying, "Bobbie and I are starting a weekly online ministry and church in 2024. I'm excited about building this new community."
Recall that Houston resigned as the global senior pastor of the church almost two years ago following allegations of misbehavior by two women.
Two months ago, the 69 year old preacher’s daughter, Laura Toganivalu and her husband, Peter, revealed that they have launched a new church. This was after they also resigned as global pastors of Hillsong’s youth ministry, Hillsong Young & Free, in early 2023.
According to Christian Post, in September 2021, Houston initially stepped down from Hillsong's board due to the criminal charges he had following allegations covering sexual abuse offenses committed by his father, Frank Houston.
In January 2022, the church announced that Houston was stepping down from his role at the church's leadership throughout 2022. He also said he was not guilty of any wrongdoing, and he was also found not guilty of the charges by an Australian court.
According to the ruling of Sydney Magistrate, Gareth Christofi, Houston had a tangible reason for not reporting his father's abuse of Brett Sengstock to police in the 1970s. This was because Houston believed that Sengstock didn't want the police to get the report of the abuse.
