Dr Roy, the former music producer of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has admitted that the “Wonder” crooner helped him when his father died.
His statement was in response to his interview on the Honest Bunch podcast where he said that he worked long hours with Mercy and he produced songs like Excess Love, Bor Ekom, Omekanaya and On A Regular, among others.
His hope was that he would be make good money producing songs for her when she was still under the record label Eezee Concepts. However, reverse was the case. When his father was ill, he said he had reached out to Mercy but she only gave him assuring words that he would be fine.
In his words: “Mercy Chinwo and I worked on her “Excess Love” project and other tracks for 22 hours straight for days and I didn’t get my royalties. When my father was sick, I called Mercy to assist me and all she said was he’ll be fine”
This caused uproar on social media as many people dragged Mercy Chinwo for not supporting him financially when his dad was sick. Other people’s reaction pointed to him to take care of his bills without being entitled to Mercy’s money.
Nevertheless, he released another video, stating that he was misunderstood, adding that it was the owner of EeZee Concepts, Ezekiel ThankGod, he was referring to.
Dr Roy said in the video: “I wasn’t referring to Mercy Chinwo, I am calling out Ezekiel ThankGod, the owner of EeZee concepts instead. Mercy Chinwo was the one who helped me when my father died”.
Reactions to Mercy and Dr Roy’s issue
Actress and filmmaker Kemi Lala Akindoju said: “I hope you all know that Mercy Chinwo was signed to a record label at the time and she most likely was not in charge of most things besides singing. I’m sure she didn’t draw up contracts and all.”
An X user Clifford Enobun wrote: “What is it with this constant Mercy Chinwo bashing? What did Mercy buy from Nigerians that makes her on the receiving side of all these bile lately? That woman has done nothing but bless us with amazing music. She has avoided drama all her life and career. Why?”
Emma Rock commented: “I want to understand something. So, her music is supposed to solve your family problem? Na question I dey ask.”
