Bishops David Abioye, Thomas Aremu to retire from Winners Chapel

Living Faith Church, better known as Winners Chapel, is gearing up for a major milestone in October 2024, as two of its beloved leaders, Bishops David Abioye and Thomas Aremu, will officially retire.

Bishop Abioye, who started with the church back in 1987 and became its youngest bishop at 32, will be honored with a farewell ceremony on October 18 in Abuja. Bishop Aremu, a former accountant turned minister, will be celebrated in Ibadan on October 15.

These retirements mark the first public celebrations of pastoral departures in Winners Chapel’s history, following the church’s revised retirement guidelines. The new rules set the retirement age at 58, a shift from the previous 60. However, the founder, Bishop David Oyedepo, will retain his lifelong service privilege, while future leaders will serve one or two seven-year terms.

Both bishops have made significant contributions to the church’s growth, with Abioye playing a key role from the early days and Aremu being the last of the original seven bishops consecrated in 1999. Their impact has left a lasting legacy within the church, making these ceremonies a fitting tribute to their decades of service.

As the church transitions with new leadership guidelines, the retirements of Abioye and Aremu reflect a blend of honouring the past while looking forward to the future.

Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners Chapel, was founded by Bishop David Oyedepo in 1981 following a vision he had in 1981, where he claimed to have received a divine mandate to preach prosperity and faith. The church grew rapidly, with its headquarters, Faith Tabernacle, located in Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria. Faith Tabernacle is known for its large congregation and has been recognized as one of the world's largest church buildings. The ministry has expanded globally, with branches in numerous countries and a strong emphasis on evangelism and education.
